Dortmund leave Aubameyang out as Arsenal transfer draws closer

Sporting director Michael Zorc says Borussia Dortmund's Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is not in the right mental state to face Hertha Berlin.

Borussia Dortmund have left Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang out of the squad for their trip to Hertha Berlin, with sporting director Michael Zorc questioning the striker's mentality amid reports he is close to joining Arsenal.

The 28-year-old missed Die Schwarzgelben's goalless draw with Wolfsburg last weekend on disciplinary grounds and has been the subject of intense transfer speculation ever since.

"He's in Dortmund training," explained Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc of the Gabon striker's omission from the squad. "We feel that he's not 100 per cent with it mentally at the moment. So it became a question of whether or not he could help us in Berlin. It's a difficult situation."

Aubameyang was the Bundesliga's top scorer last season with 31 goals, and has struck 13 times in 15 top-flight outings so far this term. Tellingly, BVB have only picked up two points and scored three goals in the three games without him.
