Buhari ‘Why we appointed dead people into agencies’--presidency

The Nigerian presidency says there’s nothing “scandalous or extraordinary” about the inclusion of the names of dead persons in a list of board and parastatal appointments. On Friday, December 29, 2017 the Muhammadu Buhari presidency announced the appointment of 209 board chairmen and 1,258 board members into a slew of agencies. Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, made the list public. The names of persons who have since passed on, popped up on the list, to the dismay and outrage of millions of Nigerians. However, the presidency says Nigerians should cut it some slack because the list was compiled in 2015 and revised in 2016. Venezuela opposition aims to unify behind one candidate in 2018 poll

Venezuela's fractured opposition said Friday it planned to drop competing agendas to unify behind a single candidate in the 2018 presidential elections in which leader Nicolas Maduro is seeking a new mandate. "We promise to boost our unity... and will proceed with selecting a single candidate," the main grouping, the Democratic Unity Roundtable (MUD) coalition, said in a statement. The coalition did not specify how it would choose its rival to Maduro. But on December 12, opposition lawmaker Luis Florido suggested consultations between the parties on holding primaries. The division in the opposition coalition have given Maduro a clear path to holding on to power, despite broad unpopularity and deep societal malaise over scarce food and medicine as the once-rich oil-producing nation teeters on the brink of default. ISIS Begins Counteroffensive To Win Back Iraqi Cities

The militants of the Islamic State, ISIS, has begun a major offensive to take back loss ground in Iraq, reports have said. According to the reports, ISIS fighters have seized a number of settlements in the cities of Kirkuk and Havidzh, and have continued to attack the positions of the Kurdish Peshmerga in Kirkuk and Tuz Khurmatu. There has also been reports of ISIS attack on the city of Samarra. About 70 Iraqis have been killed since the current ISIS offensive began.

Davido disclosed on Snapchat why Psquare did not perform together even though the Okoye brothers, Peter and Paul had agreed to perform just like the Mo-Hits crew. Davido who aknowledged ,Peter Okoye attended the show,said Paul had a show booked in Calabar and couldn’t make it to Lagos . President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday appointed 209 board chairmen and 1,258 members of government owned agencies and parastatals. More appointments are on the way, said Mr. Boss Mustapha, secretary to the Government of the Federation, who announced the latest massive batch of appointees. At the APC NEC meeting, President Buhari also hinted he would expand his cabinet by appointing more ministers. The latest appointments, the largest President Buhari ever made since 2015, saw Mallam Wada Maida, a former editor-in-chief and managing director of The News Agency of Nigeria, returning as its chairman. Appointed as one of the board members is Mr. Isa Abba Adamu. Maida, a former press secretary to Buhari when he was Nigeria’s military ruler between 1984 and 1985, is at present the Chairman board of directors of Peoples Media Limited. Yemenis inspect damage at the site of a reported Saudi-led coalition air strike, in the northwestern Huthi-held city of Saada. Sixty-eight Yemeni civilians were killed in two separate air raids by the Saudi-led Arab coalition in one day, the UN humanitarian Coordinator in Yemen Jamie McGoldrick said on Thursday. The first air strike on Tuesday hit a “crowded popular market” in Taez province, killing 54 civilians including eight children and wounding 32 others, the UN official said in a statement. The second raid was in the Red Sea province of Hodeida and killed 14 people from the same family, the statement said.

Donald!!’ as he drove through the carnival route with his wife. The bikers carnival, introduced in 2015 by Ben Ayade, Cross River governor, is aimed at adding to the rich content of the Calabar carnival.

Davido earlier announced that he’d be offering a surprise at his concert, and indeed, it was a loud one, as the DMW Boss reunited Mo’Hits crew – one of Nigeria’s most favourite band at his 30 Billion Concert. The Mo’Hits crew comprising of Don Jazzy; the Entertainer, D’Banj; vocal powerhouse, Wande Coal; as well as Dr Sid, K-Switch, Ikechukwu and D’Prince had gone on a very painful split in 2012 over several internal disagreements. This is the first time the Mo’Hits crew is reuniting since their split five years ago. According to Davido, it took him two whole months of effort to bring this moment into fruition.
